A Thug Who Admires Other Thugs

By The Reverend Published: June 23, 2016

Just a quick hitter.

The company he keeps is what is key here.

Hugh Hewitt interviewed the Donald today. Hewitt is his own unique version of freakishness, but set that aside for now. Hewitt tried to get Trump to make news on his program. Who might he choose for his VP, who might serve as high level cabinet members in a Trump presidency.....

Trump noted that Christie was an early backer of his campaign, while Cotton, who was a vocal critic of the Obama administration on the Iran deal, "is a very talented guy" and "a very popular person."

Only A Symptom Of A Much More Serious Disease

By The Reverend Published: June 23, 2016

Fox Freak, Howard Kurtz, was very excited over the speech his political party's presidential nominee awkwardly read off a teleprompter yesterday. Howie praised Trump's "disciplined approach" and suggested that the hot mess of lies masquerading as a campaign speech might just "convince skeptics in his own party".

Kurtz hosts the Machiavellian Fox program called MediaBuzz...perhaps it is called that because viewers must put a good buzz on before sitting down to watch it. Don't know for sure. Howie is a "news" media critic who personally has a conservative hate-radio perspective. He specializes in what I call sins of omission. Kurtz purposely withholds all damning evidence from his program which contradicts the far-right's take on almost every political issue.

As you might expect, Howie praised Trump's speech from yesterday, calling it....

...the first real slugfest of the general election, and the punches thrown—attention, media folks—were mainly about substance.

Telepromter Trump & The Pivoters

By The Reverend Published: June 22, 2016

ABC News.....It was perhaps the closest Trump has come to a pivot so far.

As predicted in this morning's post, some, not all, in the Village are eager to take the phony Trump "pivot" bait. Here is the headline at the top of a current piece at The Hill describing the Donald's speech this morning....

"Trump moves into presidential mode"

From the body of the piece....

Polls & Self-Loathers

By The Reverend Published: June 22, 2016

Here's some new evidence possibly validating the claim that Omar Mateen, the Orlando shooter, struggled with his own sexual identity....

According to "Miguel", he met Mateen through a gay dating site and had between 15 and 20 encounters with him at a local hotel during the last three months of 2015. Univision reported that a hotel staffer confirmed that Miguel stayed there during that time period, and also said Mateen “looked familiar.”

However, Miguel said, Mateen never identified himself by his real name, and instead described himself as a married man with two children. Miguel told Univision that he believed Mateen’s wife, Noor Salman, was aware of the relationship and that the marriage was a way for him to cover up his sexuality.

Why did Mateen choose the Pulse nightclub as his gun-slaughter target?

Team Players

By The Reverend Published: June 21, 2016

Bragging rights are cool and all.....'we're the champs', 'we're number 1', are great feel-good slogans. Championships are emotionally uplifting....putting a little extra spring in a sports fan's step, an excited look on a fan's face. At least for a few days.

I remember the last Cleveland sports franchise championship. I remember watching the 1964 Browns win the NFL championship game. Great game. The 64 Browns were, as the Cavs are today, quite a team. I remember feeling good...upbeat....over that 27-0 Browns win over the Baltimore Colts and Johnny Unitas. At least for a few days.

Vicarious thrills are genuine. The rush of adrenaline, real. A fan's connection with the championship team bordering on the spiritual. Even though all sports fans are but spectators, and not participants, the sense that "we" won is palpable. For a few days, at least.

In December of 1964, as I jiggered the rabbit ears to pull in the Browns-Colts game from....swear to god....a Canadian network.....because of a teevee blackout locally.... our nation's lawmakers were in the midst of a battle over civil rights for black Americans. JFK had been assassinated a year prior to the game.....RFK and MLK would both be assassinated four years later. Vietnam was just getting going. Much political and social unrest was to follow.

Not Right In The Head

By The Reverend Published: June 19, 2016

I guess it is a requirement now in the U.S. What is? Whenever there is a multiple-victim killing in the U.S., or even Europe, audiences of news programs must endure a week of 'ZOMG it's ISIS' fear-coverage before any other motivation by the perpetrator is considered seriously.

The Reverend, this past Tuesday....

I'm no psychologist....and when it comes to the myriad complexities that comprise human sexuality, who can even begin to understand the mindset of another person? But, into this already terrible mass-murder story enters the strong possibility that Omar Mateen's killing spree was motivated by hatred of his own sexual urgings.

Go here and see what real psychologists are saying about Omar Mateen's internal battle over his own sexual identity.

Why They Hate Us

By The ReverendWhy Oh Why Do They Hate Us Published: June 18, 2016

According to this April 2015 study, since 1990, western countries, with the U.S. in the lead, have killed some 4 million Muslims. Four million.

Now, people can argue whether or not the killing of 4 million Muslims in the middle east over the last quarter century is justifiable. But the fact still remains that western nations, led always by the U.S., have been directly responsible for those 4 million Muslim deaths.

Following Omar Mateen's killing rampage in Orlando, many Serious analysts have been singing the now-familiar song of "self-radicalization". The concept is that mostly young American Muslims are sitting at home in front of their digital devices, listening to radical imams, who, allegedly brainwash their audiences into going out and committing mass murder inside the U.S.

Many in the U.S. intelligence business have taken the opportunity of the Orlando slaughter to push for a crackdown on this alleged "self-radicalization" process. We saw the same happen after San Bernardino.

GOP Senators Line Up Behind Political Stunt Amendment

Whattya think? Can the Cavs finally do it?

One of the patriotic leftovers from the Bush-Cheney administration is the "no-fly list". A secret government rolodex of names of Americans who have not been charged with any crimes....but who just MIGHT plot to blow up a plane, so they are banned from flying. The list denies a specific group of U.S. citizens from boarding a plane....and all without any due process whatsoever. America, it has often been said, is a nation of laws, not men.

The way I view the "no-fly list" is that if a citizen of the U.S. is suspicious enough that he's denied flying privileges for fear he/she might blow that plane up, that person should probably be incarcerated, or, at least, be under constant surveillance. Does the no fly list prevent people from getting on subways, buses.....going into crowded malls or arenas? No. I've long felt that the "no-fly list" was a political "feel safe" gesture to help encourage Americans to feel confident about flying again post 9-11.

Why AR-15s Are Flying Off Gun Store Shelves

By The Reverend Published: June 16, 2016

In the wake of the Orlando gun-slaughter, gun company stock values soared. Smith and Wesson stock jumped by 7% and Sturm, Lugar stock soared by 8.5%.

Here is why, according to USA Today...

Stocks of gun companies typically rise after shooting attacks amid anticipation that the incidents could prompt some Americans to buy weapons for self-protection. Additionally, calls for gun control could spark firearm purchases by buyers anticipating potential sale restrictions on handguns and rifles.

Two reasons are offered. One, people are scared and think they need a gun for protection...and two, people are buying guns right now because they anticipate coming restrictions.

The Trump News Network?

By The Reverend Published: June 16, 2016

Readers need to take in this article from Vanity Fair. Trust me on this one, okay?

I made some mental notes during the Clown Bus GOP primaries. One of those notes was Trump's constant mentioning of how his presence in the Clown Bus was producing windfall ratings for cable and network "news" media.

You might also recall how, back in January, Trump chose to directly compete with, in that case, a GOP scheduled debate to be aired by Fox, by holding his own "veteran charity" event, rather than participating in the GOP debate.

After you consider the Vanity Fair piece, you may wonder if Trump was doing a bit of market-testing when he skipped out on Fox and tried to directly compete instead. But market-testing...for what?....
