Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic announced Friday morning that he plans to seek another term.

Plusquellic, already Akron's longest-serving mayor, made his announcement during a news conference at a local company, ending months of speculation about his future plans. He has been mayor since 1987.

Several prominent local politicians have said they might consider running, with some interested only if the mayor wasn't, and others pondering a bid regardless. Among them is Mike Williams, a longtime, at-large Akron councilman who has butted heads with Plusquellic and his supporters over the years.

The filing deadline for the Sept. 13 primary is in June.
