Akron mayor, retiring deputy mayor to receive Burg awards

 Akron City Hall will be well represented next year when the H. Peter Burg Awards are presented.

Mayor Don Plusquellic will receive the award by this name given by the Greater Akron Chamber of Commerce, while retiring Deputy Mayor Dave Lieberth will get this honor from the American Red Cross of Summit and Portage counties.

The chamber's award recognizes a leader who has enhanced local and regional economic and community development. The Red Cross' honor is for community leadership.

Plusquellic will receive the chamber award at an event from 5 to 8:30 p.m. March 19 at the John S. Knight Center, 77 E. Mill St. Lieberth will get his at an event at 6 p.m. March 7 at the Hilton Akron/Fairlawn, 3180 W. Market St.

Lieberth, who is retiring Saturday, was a finalist for the Red Cross' award this year and was a natural choice for next year, said Mike Taylor, a Red Cross spokesman.
