Akron Radio Center to host foodtruck event this Friday

By Stephanie Warsmith Published: August 6, 2013

Food trucks are coming to Akron ... at least for a day.

The Akron Radio Center will host a "Food Truck Friday: Radio Roundup" this Friday in the center's parking lot at 1795 W. Market St. in Akron. The event will begin at 11 a.m. and last until the food runs out.

Mobile Sushi Bar, Stone Pelican, Wholly Frijoles, Zydeco Bistro and Orange Truk plan to take part.

"These guys aren't the 'roach coaches' some of us remember from the past," said Thom Mandel, president of Rubber City Radio Group. "I'm looking forward to hosting these food artists at the Akron Radio Center."

Lisa Abraham, the Beacon Journal's food writer and a big proponent of food trucks being allowed to operate on public property in Akron, plans to attend the event.

Akron City Council has a committee studying the food truck issue. The committee has so far met once and plans to take a couple of months to study the issue, said Councilman Jeff Fusco, who is heading the committee.
