COLUMBUS: A state audit finds the Ohio House of Representatives botched the paychecks of dozens of staffers in 2007 and 2008.
The audit released Tuesday says payments for vacation, sick and personal leave were miscalculated, so 15 employees were overpaid by a total of nearly $3,300. Another 48 staffers were shortchanged almost $4,900.
State Auditor Mary Taylor's office also says three lawmakers were overpaid nearly $3,800 because they left office before serving out months they'd been paid for. They weren't notified that they owed reimbursements.
A spokesman for Democratic House Speaker Armond Budish (BYOO'-dish) tells The Columbus Dispatch the problems occurred during the previous Republican leadership and says steps have been taken to make sure they don't happen again.
