Milkovich's campaign committee made false statement on yard signs, commission finds

The Ohio Elections Commission found today that state Rep. Zack Milkovich’s campaign committee made a false statement in yard signs, failing to make it clear that Milkovich is running for Barberton Clerk of Courts and doesn’t currently hold that office.

The commission, however, opted not to refer the matter for prosecution, noting steps the committee has since made to correct the issue, said Phil Richter, the commission’s executive director.

Zawistowski to speak at Constitution Party meeting

Tom Zawistowski, executive director of the Portage County TEA Party, will be the keynote speaker at the Ohio Constitution Party's state meeting Saturday.

"In light of recent events in Columbus and Washington, D.C., I think it is appropriate that I would have the opportunity to address a group of hard-working, dedicated Ohioans who are trying to create an alternative to the current failed and flawed two-party system, something that national polls have recently shown Americans are hungry to see," Zawistowski said in a press release.

Fudge, Ryan send letter urging Boehner to end government shutdown

The two Democratic members of Summit County's Congressional delegation sent a letter to House Speaker John Boehner today, urging him to end the government shutdown.

"In the spirit of biartisanship and with the sincere hope that you will lead the entire House of Representatives -- not just your Republican colleagues -- towards a solution that ends the crisis of governance now facing our Republic, we urge you to let the House of Representatives take up legislation to end the government shutdown and avert a default on the public debt," says the letter from U.S. Reps. Marcia Fudge and Tim Ryan.

Ghana journalists likes Akron, except for traffic lights

A Ghana journalist visiting Akron enjoyed the city, except for the traffic lights.

Henry Kwaku Owusu Peprah, who is taking part in an international exchange program, wrote in a column on Akron News Now that he found Akron's yellow traffic lights irksome because of the color and the sheer number.

AFSCME supports steam plant proposal

The city of Akron has won an important endorsement for its proposal on the November ballot to give its steam plan to Akron Children's Hospital.

The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Ohio Council 8 is urging voters to approve the proposal, which will be Issue 4 in the Nov. 5 election.
