Boccieri has new non-political gig

By Stephanie Warsmith Published: June 4, 2012

Former Congressman John Boccieri has a new job -- and it isn't in politics.

The Tribune Chronicle reports that Boccieri took over as the new commander of the 773rd Airlift Squadron in a Saturday ceremony at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station.

Boccieri, a colonel, has earned his stripes in both the military and politics, doing four tours in Iraq and Afghanistan and serving at the Ohio Statehouse and in Congress. He was defeated as a freshman congressman in 2010 by U.S. Rep. Jim Renacci, R-Wadsworth.

"I've actually voted to send my friends that I'm now serving with over to these troubled areas to fight," Boccieri told the Chronicle. "Now, I'm actually training them and leading them."
