Civil rights movie to be shown

By Stephanie Warsmith Published: August 14, 2013

The movie Brother Outsider about civil rights activist Bayard Rustin will be shown from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21 in meeting rooms 2 A and B of the Akron-Summit County Public Library, 60 South High St.

The event is free and open to the public.

President Barack Obama will posthumously award Rustin, who has been called "the invisible man" in the civil rights movement, with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington later this month. The film chronicles the setbacks and triumphs of Rustin’s 60-year career.
