Fudge, Ryan send letter urging Boehner to end government shutdown

The two Democratic members of Summit County's Congressional delegation sent a letter to House Speaker John Boehner today, urging him to end the government shutdown.

"In the spirit of biartisanship and with the sincere hope that you will lead the entire House of Representatives -- not just your Republican colleagues -- towards a solution that ends the crisis of governance now facing our Republic, we urge you to let the House of Representatives take up legislation to end the government shutdown and avert a default on the public debt," says the letter from U.S. Reps. Marcia Fudge and Tim Ryan.

U.S. Reps. Marcy Kaptur and Joyce Beatty also signed the one-page letter sent to Boehner and distributed to the media.

The representatives reminded Boehner of times when the two parties worked together in the past. Among the examples was Reps. Dave Hobson and Ralph Regula "working across the aisle to build roads, bridges, highways, new energy generation and major hospital systems."

A tentative deal to end the shutdown and avoid a debt default has reportedly been reached, with both the Senate and House expected to take action by the end of the day.
