Fusco is new chairman of Summit County Democratic Party

By Stephanie Warsmith Published: June 4, 2014

Akron Councilman Jeff Fusco's winning streak continued Tuesday night when he was elected chairman of the Summit County Democratic Party.

Fusco, who has never before lost an election, was chosen by precinct committee members elected in the May primary to take over for Wayne Jones.

Akron Councilwoman Tara Mosley-Samples competed against Summit County Councilwoman Tamela Lee for the first vice chair spot, with Lee prevailing. The other officers are: Summit County Councilwoman Sandra Kurt, second vice chair; former Tallmadge Mayor Chris Grimm, treasurer; and Cuyahoga Falls Law Director Russ Balthis, secretary.

Fusco called it a "real positive night."

"There was a lot of gratitude for Wayne Jones and a lot of excitement for the future," he said in a phone interview this morning en route to vacationing with his family.

Jones, who had served as chairman since 2007, will continue in his position on the Summit County elections board. Fusco, an at-large councilman, will remain on council and will be up for re-election next year.
