Ohio Secretary of State candidate Maryellen O'Shaughnessy challenged Republican opponent State Sen. Jon Husted to release his income tax returns, as she has done, according to a Dayton Daily News report.
O'Shaughnessy, currently serving as Franklin County Clerk of Common Pleas Courts, issued the challenge as she was appearing at a Cleveland City Club debate that Husted declined to attend.
O'Shaughnessy is challenging Husted on whether he took a housing allowance available to state lawmakers who live more than 50 miles from the state capital.
Daily News reporter Lynn Hulsey wrote:
For tax year 2009, a senator taking the maximum deduction could write off $55,870, according to the memo from the clerk, who could not be reached for comment.
The base salary for a senator is $60,584.
