Larry Cray named to Medina County elections board

Larry Cray, a Medina County GOP activist, has been tapped to fill a vacancy on the Medina County Board of Elections.

Cray, who is first vice chairman of the Medina County Republican Party's Executive Committee, was chosen today by Secretary of State Jon Husted, after being recommended by the county party's executive committee.

Poll respondents so far say Akron needs a new arena

The majority of people who have so far responded to an ohio.com poll think Akron needs a new arena.

Fifty-seven percent of the nearly 800 people who have participated said the city would benefit from a new arena for University of Akron basketball and other events.

Lieberth has another book signing for book on Akron history

Former Akron deputy mayor Dave Lieberth, who just completed a book on the city's history, will have a second book signing event.

Lieberth will sign his book, called Inventive. Industrious. Inspired, from 7 to 9 a.m. Monday at Akron Family Restaurant, 250 W. Market St. He previously announced an event from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday  at the Zebra-Martell Studio, 43 Furnace St.

Former Akron deputy mayor finishes book on city

Former Akron deputy mayor Dave Lieberth, who is known as the city’s unofficial historian, has now finished a book on the city’s history.

Mayor Don Plusquellic will announce the release of Inventive. Industrious. Inspired: The Story of Greater Akron at the Greater Akron Chamber’s board of director’s meeting at 8:45 a.m. Thursday in the Firestone Country Club’s new loge. Lieberth, who retired from the city last fall, will autograph books.

Joyce urges FCC to ban cell phone calls during flights

What do you think about airline passengers talking on cell phones mid-flight? 

U.S. Rep. Dave Joyce thinks it's a bad idea and recently signed a letter urging the Federation Communication Commission (FCC) to prohibit cell phone conversations on planes above 10,000 feet.

Summit elections board promotes from within for deputy director

The Summit County elections board didn't need to look far to find its new deputy director.

The board voted today to promote Paula Sauter, the assistant to the deputy director, to the board's No. 2 spot. Sauter, 39, has been with the board for seven years, serving in registration, absentee and campaign finance before being promoted to assistant to the deputy director.
