Kaboom plans to run for Akron mayor

Pastor Natural Hunka Kaboom, a regular speaker at Akron City Council meetings, plans to run for Akron mayor next year.

Kaboom, whose plan to run for council in 2013 was cut short when he failed to get enough valid signatures, announced his new political aspirations during the public comment period at Monday night's council meeting.

"I've been told I can win," he said of his planned mayoral bid.

Kaboom's announcement followed his suggestion that Akron legalize marijuana and put people to work growing it. He said he wrote Mayor Don Plusquellic with this suggestion and didn't hear back from him.

Kaboom made headlines in 2012 when the metal walking stick bearing his name was left behind in City Hall and mistaken for a pipe bomb.
