A Medina college student is among nine interns who will be working this summer in Sen. Rob Portman's office.
Matthew Leonardi is a senior at the University of Dayton, where he is studying criminal justice. He is the only intern from the Akron-Canton area, with the others hailing from across Ohio.
The internships are aimed at students who have completed at least one full year of an undergraduate degree, with preference given to students from Ohio. Interns work with staff responsible for Portman's legislative, press and administrative operations, according to a press release.
"I began my career in public service as a Congressional intern and know first-hand the benefits of offering college-aged students an exciting introduction to Congress," Portman said in the release. "These young men and women will earn valuable experience as they assist me and my staff."
Students interested in applying for an internship can visit Portman's website at portman.senate.gov and fill out an application. The deadline for fall internships is July 5. For more information, call 202-224-3353 or send an email to Portman_Internships@portman.senate.gov.
