New effort will focus on improving efficiency, collaboration among local governments

A new effort will focus on improving efficiency and collaboration among local governments in Northeast Ohio.

A coalition of Northeast Ohio, including some in Akron and Canton, has hired the Center for Governmental Research (CGR), based in Rochester, N.Y. to help with the effort.

The center will study the EfficientGovNework (EGNet), a three-year-old initative involving Northeast Ohio leaders from government, business, nonprofits and the public, and how EGNet can enhance its sustainability and ability to help local governments.

EGNet evolved from a project called EfficientGovNow, which has provided government efficiency grants and is sponsored by the Fund for Our Economic Future. The fund is a collaborative of philanthropic organizations and individuals that has been working since 2004 to confront financial and economic competitiveness issues in Northeast Ohio.

"CGR is excited to again be working with leaders in Northeast Ohio," Joseph Stefko, president and CEO of CGR, said in a news release. "Today the issue of local government efficiency in the region is at the forefront of the public agenda."

CGR and the Uhl Group, its Cleveland-based partner, are expected to complete  the project by next spring.
