At long last, a gubernatorial debate has been scheduled in Ohio.
But, not with the candidates you'd expect.
Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald, the Democratic candidate for governor, has agreed to debate Anita Rios, the Green Party candidate. So far, Gov. John Kasich, a Republican running for his second term, hasn't accepted the invitation. Kasich hasn't agreed to any debates, a rarity for Ohio gubernatorial races.
FitzGerald and Rios will debate at 6 p.m. Oct. 22 at the City Club of Cleveland, Lauren Hitt, a spokeswoman for FitzGerald confirmed Wednesday. To read more or comment...
The Ohio Organizing Collaborative will launch a civic engagement program today, hoping to reach 136,000 voters across the state.
The group will hold events at locations throughout Ohio this afternoon, including in Akron. The Akron event will be at 4 p.m. at East Akron Community House, 550 S. Arlington St.
The group's key issues include enforcing fair hiring policies, ending the school-to-prison pipeline and guaranteeing senior care benefits, according to a news release.
The collaborative is a statewide organization that unites community organizing groups, labor unions, faith organizations and policy institutes across the state. To read more or comment...
