Pair of polls shows Obama leading Romney in Ohio

A pair of polls for the presidential race in Ohio released today show President Barack Obama leading Mitt Romney.

The Ohio Poll has Obama topping Romney by 48 to 46, with the spread within the margin of error.

Josh Romney to attend Portage County Tea Party meeting Thursday

Josh Romney, one of Mitt Romney's sons, will attend the Portage County Tea Party meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Maplewood Career Center, 7075 state Route 88, just north of Ravenna.

Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor also will speak at the meeting.

Free rides for early voters effort gets off to a bumpy start

Early voters who showed up Tuesday for a free ride to the Summit County Board of Elections courtesy of a local group of pastors didn't get very far.

A communication breakdown resulted in vans not being sent to the correct locations at the proper times. Pastor Bruce Butcher, who is heading the effort, offered his "apologies to anyone counting on us for getting to the polls."

Gov. Brownback visits Akron, Ravenna with bus tour

Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback stopped in Akron and Ravenna today as part of a Commit to Mitt Early Vote Express bus tour around Ohio.

The tour stopped at the Portage County elections board at about 11:30 a.m. and the Summit County elections board at about 1 p.m. The tour visited five counties in northern Ohio Tuesday and 53 counties since Oct. 2.

Biden's Canton visit to be part of multi-stop swing through Ohio

Vice-president Joe Biden's visit to Canton Monday will be part of a multi-stop swing through Ohio that will include his first joint appearance with President Barack Obama of this campaign.

Biden will stop in Canton and Lorain Monday and Toledo and Dayton Tuesday, where he will meet up with Obama that afternoon, said Jessica Kershaw, a spokeswoman for Obama's campaign in Ohio.

The national and state leaders of the AFL-CIO and U.S. Rep. Betty Sutton will hold a work-site leaflet and press conference this afternoon at the Timken Co. Harrison Plant.

National AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka, Ohio AFL-CIO President Tim Burga and Sutton will talk with workers coming in and out of the plant, located at 17th Street and Harrison Avenue Southwest, at shift change from 3 to 4 p.m. They will discuss "important issues to middle-class working families that are at stake" in the Nov. 6 election, including jobs and trade, according to an AFL-CIO press release.

Pastor group to offer early voters free rides to elections board

   A local group of pastors plans to offer early voters free rides to the polls beginning Tuesday.

The Coalition of Concerned Clergy, Community Leaders and Citizens, will provide the rides on Tuesdays and Thursdays until the Nov. 6 election. The schedule, pick-up days and locations may change, based on demand.

So, those attending may want to dress warm. The high for today is 59 degrees and the temperature is expected to drop tonight to 41 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Craig Romney, one of GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney's sons, will meet with volunteers at the campaign's Kent office at 175 E. Erie St. at 5 p.m. Friday.

He will then move on to the Youngstown office, 621 Boardman Canfield Road in Youngstown at 7 p.m.

The visits will help kickoff the campaign's Buckeye Blitz this weekend in which volunteers will reach out to as many Ohio voters as possible.
