TIFFIN Ohio's Democratic governor is making a push to pick up votes in conservative rural areas during the final days of the governor's race.

It's a strategy Gov. Ted Strickland used to win the state four years ago.

This time his campaign is passing out leaflets at high school football games warning that Republican John Kasich wants to consolidate small school districts.

Kasich's campaign says those claims aren't true and that Strickland is showing how desperate he is to win.

Kasich says he has no plan to close or merge small schools and that all he advocates is the idea of schools sharing services to cut costs.

The issue is becoming a contentious point in the last days before Tuesday's election.
