Otterman among new Akron Civil Service Commission members

By Stephanie Warsmith Published: June 18, 2013

A familiar name has reentered the Akron political scene: Otterman.

John Otterman, a former Akron councilman and state representative, was one of two new members appointed to the Akron Civil Service Commission this week by Akron City Council.

Otterman lost the legislative seat he took over for his father, Bob Otterman, in 2010 to Zack Milkovich.

Council also appointed Candace Campbell Jackson, an University of Akron vice president and chief of staff, to the commission, and reappointed Steve Stock, who is with the local electrical union.

Jackson is the Republican member, while Otterman is the Democrat and Stock is the union representative.

Jackson will serve until 2015, Stock until 2017 and Otterman until 2019, according to Akron Chief of Staff Rick Merolla.

The current commission members will stay on until August or September to make it through the appeals that are expected out of the latest police and fire exams.
