Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic, who has often gotten heat for his international travel, is mentioned in an article about another Ohio mayor being scrutinized for his trips.
Plusquellic is quoted in a Toledo Blade article that ran today, which focuses on the international travels of Toledo Mayor Mike Bell.
"I travel abroad because it's important to foreign business leaders when they meet the mayor himself -- it's not a duty I can outsource to someone else," Plusquellic said in the article.
Plusquellic, by the way, is currently traveling in Europe and will attend a technology fair in Hanover. His trip includes stops in Slovenia for the third Austrian-Slovenia Polymer Meeting and Leeuwarden, the capital city of the Dutch province of Friesland, according to city spokeswoman Stephanie York.
Bell, who, like Plusquellic, will attend the Hanover technology fair, has been criticized for his travel, with some questioning whether it's worth the expense. One of his chief critics is a councilman who is challenging him in this fall's election.
This ought to sound familiar to Akronites, with at-large Councilman Mike Williams, who ran against Plusquellic in the 2011 election, also questioning his frequent travel.
