Obama bus tour to roll through Ohio next week; details not yet released

President Barack Obama's first bus tour of this campaign will roll through Ohio and Pennsylvania next week, numerous media sources, including the Cleveland Plain Dealer and Washington Post, are reporting.

The campaign, however, isn't releasing details about the trip, except to confirm he'll be in Ohio.

Well-known local politicos in new leadership class

Three people well known in Summit County politics are among the members of the new Leadership Akron class.

Jason Dodson, chief of staff for Summit County Executive Russ Pry; Tamela Lee, a Summit County Council member; and Stephanie York, Akron's spokeswoman and an assistant law director, are on the just-released list of 34 in the 2012-13 class.

Biden trip to southern Ohio postponed

Vice President Joe Biden isn't headed back to Ohio Monday afterall.

Biden's trip to Hamilton near Cincinnati has been postponed because of a scheduling conflict. A new date has not yet been set, according to the Associated Press.

Summit Dems give awards

Summit County Democrats recognized some of their own during their largest annual fundraising dinner this week.

Those who received 2012 awards were: David Horner, Democrat of the Year; Judge Elinore Marsh Stormer, Jane Quine Democrat of the Year; Patrick Bravo, Young Democrat of the Year; and Thomas Townsend and Jackie DeBose, Chair's Distinguished Service Awards.

Pry, Ryan tout Obama's economic record in call

U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan and Summit County Executive Russ Pry were among those who touted President Barack Obama's economic record in Ohio during a conference call this morning.

Ryan said the unemployment rate in all 88 Ohio counties was lower for May than this time last year, according to figures released this week. He pointed to Obama's bail-out of the auto industry as one of the ways he helped the state.

Biden visiting southern Ohio

Vice-President Joe Biden will visit Hamilton in southern Ohio Monday.

His visit comes on the cusp of the one-year anniversary of the union-backed movement to repeal state legislation that limited collective bargaining. A referendum on the bill was overwhelmingly approved by voters last November.

Romney's first state-specific ad focuses on Ohio

Mitt Romney released his first-state specific television spot Friday and it focused on Ohio.

The positive ad will run statewide, according to Chris Maloney, the Ohio spokesman for the presumed GOP presidential candidate.

Canfora still heads Barberton Dems

Alan Canfora, the long-time chairman of the Barberton Democratic Party, will remain in this role for the next two years.

Canfora, the party's chairman since 1992, was unanimously re-elected in a recent meeting. He points with pride to how no Republicans have been elected in the city under his watch.

Romney touts 'jobs agenda' in Vindy interview

Mitt Romney, the presumed Republican presidential nominee, told a Youngstown Vindicator reporter that he has a "jobs agenda" -- not a partisan one.

"I ask my liberal friends: What's the president done to help the economy?" Romney said during a one-on-one interview with Vindicator political reporter David Skolnick. "They can't think of anything."

Maryland governor to speak at county Dem dinner

Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley will speak at the Summit County Democratic Party's annual Franklin D. Roosevelt Dinner Tuesday at Todaro's Party Center, 1820 Akron-Peninsula Road.

O'Malley chairs the Democratic Governor's Association and has been on the campaign trail, stumping for President Barack Obama. He is considered a contender for a presidential run in 2016.

Men of Akron council host dad talk

With Father's Day around the corner, the men of Akron City Council want to talk about the importance of dads.

The councilmen will host a screening of the movie "Courageous" at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the main auditorium of the Akron-Summit County Library, 60 S. High St. in downtown Akron. Afterward, they will host a discussion about the importance of men fulfilling their role as fathers.

Joyce Healy-Abrams, the Democratic candidate for the 7th Congressional District, will kick off her campaign and have an open house at her new headquarters from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Healy-Abrams' headquarters is at 2645 Cleveland Ave., Unit 3, in Canton, across from the post office.
