By Stephanie Warsmith Published: April 25, 2014

A rally to kick off  the local effort to collect signatures for the Ohio Voter Bill of Rights will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Second Baptist Church, 690 S. Main St. in Akron.

State Rep. Alicia Reece, president of the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus, will speak during the event. Reece, D-Cincinnati, has been pushing for the constitutional amendment that would make voting a fundamental right and set in stone a 35-day early voting period and the current identification standards for voting and permit online voter registration.

The goal of those pushing for the amendment is to gather 20,000 signatures in Summit County and 400,000 statewide by July 2 to get the issue on the Nov. 4 ballot.
