U.S. Rep. Jim Renacci is airing a new cable television ad in the 16th Congressional District called "Setting the Record Straight."
In the ad, Renacci talks about how U.S. Rep. John Boccieri, his opponent two years ago, and the special interest groups that supported him spent $6 million trying to beat him.
"They knew I was determined to cut federal spending and that's exactly what I've done," he said, as televisions showing the ads fell around him.
Renacci said U.S. Rep. Betty Sutton, his current opponent, and the groups that support her will soon begin airing ads with "false attacks" against him.
The ad can be seen on Renacci's campaign website.
Renacci doesn't mention in the ad that groups supporting him also spent millions of dollars two years ago, making it one of the most expensive Congressional campaigns in the country. A similar amount is expected to be spent by both sides in the current campaign.
Renacci, R-Wadsworth, and Sutton, D-Copley, are locked in a battle for the 16th district seat, thrown into the same district by a redrawing of the boundary lines.
