Summit County GOP suggests Tom McCarty for vacancy

By Stephanie Warsmith Published: August 29, 2013

Former Judge Tom McCarty is the Summit County Republican Party's top pick to replace a retired Summit County Judge.

The party, which met Wednesday night to choose candidates, selected Barberton Municipal Court Judge Chris Croce and Scott Stevenson, an attorney whose wife is Diana Stevenson, the Barberton court clerk, as its other choices.

The party will submit its candidates to Gov. John Kasich, who will choose the replacement to fulfill the term of Summit County Common Pleas Judge Judy Hunter, who recently retired.

"Any of them are qualified to be judge," said Alex Arshinkoff, the county party chairman.

McCarty, a former Akron Municipal Court judge, lost his seat in 2011 to Joy Oldfield.
