Sutton not running for governor

By Stephanie Warsmith Published: March 22, 2013

Former U.S. Rep. Betty Sutton is latest prominent Democrat to not enter the governor's race.

Sutton released a brief statement this morning saying she's decided against running. Her announcement follows a recent similar statement from U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan, D-Niles.

"I want to thank all who have encouraged me to run," said Sutton, who lives in Copley. "I will always be honored by the support and encouragement I have been given, but after thoughtful consideration, I have decided that I will not run."

That clears the decks for Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald, who is so far the only Democrat who has stepped forward to challenge Gov. John Kasich.
