Scott Glisson has withdrawn as a write-in candidate for Tallmadge mayor, leaving Council President Jack Sarver as the lone Republican in the race.
The Summit County Board of Elections approved Glisson's request to remove himself from the ballot this week.
Both the Republican and Democratic parties sought out write-in candidates in case either of their chosen candidates didn't make it on the ballot because of a procedural dispute about how they were selected. Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner, however, ruled that both Sarver and interim Mayor David Kline should be allowed to run.
Sarver, who switched parties, will face Kline, a Democrat in the Nov. 2 election. They are vying to fill the final year of Christopher Grimm's four-year term.
Grimm resigned in April.
