Tension at the outset as SB5 comes to vote
Demonstrators gathered outside the state Capitol and lawmakers sparred as a House committee prepared to vote on an amended Senate Bill 5 to restrict government employee bargaining rights.
Although the amendments had not yet been unveiled, the Plain Dealer offered some glimpses.
Committee Chairman Joe Uecker, R-Miami Township, irked State Rep. Robert Hagan, D-Youngstown, when he ordered anti-SB5 petitions out of the hearing room.
The Columbus Dispatch reported that Hagan also expressed anger that the news media had information on Republican changes to the bill before Democrats on the committee saw the amendments. See the video.
