U.S. Rep Tim Ryan will make a decision in the next few months about whether he wants to run for Ohio governor in 2014.

Ryan, D-Niles, who easily run reelection this month, told the Beacon Journal in an interview this afternoon that he wants to see what happens in Washington, D.C. and what committee assignments he receives. He expects to be reappointed to the House appropriations committee, which decides on the budget.

"I want to be in the position to be the most help," he said. "It's a big decision. I want to try to be mindful."

Ryan was alluding to a recent book he wrote called A Mindful Nation: How a Simple Practice Can Help Us Reduce Stress, Improve Performance and Recapture the American Spirit that details a meditation technique called mindfulness he is using to cope with the stress of being in Congress.

Ryan, who is on a short list of likely Democratic gubernatorial contenders, visited the Beacon Journal to discuss his book and how he thinks this approach could help others in and out of Congress.
