FreedomWorks leader to speak at Portage County TEA Party event

Adam Brandon, executive director of FreedomWorks, a major national Tea Party supporter, will be the keynote speaker at the Portage County TEA Party's annual fundraising dinner on Dec. 6.

Brandon grew up in Cleveland and said in a press release that he is looking forward to returning to Northeast Ohio. He said he will have some added pressure because his mother and father will attend the event.

Pastor asks Akron council to better explain what it does

An African-American pastor made an interesting plea to Akron City Council members this week, asking them to better explain to the public what they do.

Greg Harrison, a pastor at Antioch Baptist Church, told council during a public comment period Monday that his parishioners have attended council meetings, but council moves so quickly through its business that it was difficult for them to understand what was happening.

Gibbs opening district office in Canton

U.S. Rep. Bob Gibbs is opening a district office in Canton, his office announced in a press release today.

Gibbs, whose C-shaped district takes in numerous counties including most of Stark, opened an office in Ashland in January.

Don Drumm to be honored

Akron artist Don Drumm designed a flag for the West Hill Neighborhood Organization that he calls home.

Now, the neighborhood group plans to honor Drumm for his efforts.

Political scholars, journalists to discuss national divide at UA conference

Political scholars and journalists will travel to Akron this week to discuss the deep divide among the parties and the public.

They will participate in the seventh "State of the Parties" conference, hosted by the University of Akron's Bliss Institute of Applied Politics, which will be Thursday and Friday at Quaker Square.
