The Ohio legislature is considering a ban on traffic cameras aimed at curbing speeding, the Plain Dealer reported.
The ban, however, carves out an exception for school zones, so it appears that Akron wouldn't be impacted as much as other cities. Akron uses cameras in school zones only and warns motorists before-hand.
The city would, however, have to begin having a police officer in the school zones where it operates cameras, which would be an additional expense.
Other Northeast Ohio cities that are using speed cameras outside of school zones would be impacted even more.
