Is it just me or is there a slightly disorienting delay between sight and sound that is making everyone seem like underskilled lip-syncers? (sorry Taylor)
The periodic audio farts and glitches aren't very sexy either.
Anyway, nice tribute to Glen Campbell with The Band Perry (Gentle On My Mind), Blake Shelton (Southern Nights) and a spry Campbell (Rhinestone Cowboy).
In past several months we've lost music legends including Etta, Whitney, Gil, Don and other respected artist such Nick Ashford, Howlin' Wolf guitarist Hubert Sumlin, Clarence Clemons, singer Phoebe Snow, Heavy D, 70's funkster Jimmy Castor and blues man Johnny Otis and now Campbell is taking his victory lap before Alzheimer's takes its toll.
Enjoy them while they're here.
And Tony Bennett singing It Had To Be You with Carrie Underwood just keeps going and going....
BEST NEW ARTIST - Bon Iver!
Ok, that's a real shocker, I was on the Nicki Minaj and/or The Band Perry train, so yeah, techno/dance and folk based music (Bon Iver, Mumford & Sons, Fleet Foxes have all been nominated and sell quite a few records) have made quite the come-up in the mainstream pop market. Anything that adds some spice to pop radio and the charts and opens up music listeners ears.
Jennifer Hudson's simple rendition of I Will Always Love You with only piano accompaniment, may have come in part from necessity given the short window of time, producers had to put it together, but it was definitely emotionally effective.
Speaking of dance/electronic music here's the big dance music medley, jim-jam with David Guetta, Chris Brown, Lil Wayne and the Foo Fighters.
The brief Foos/Deadmau5 remix of Walk was uh....something. But whatever, Dave Grohl's rockin a Slayer shirt.
I Love those dubstep deep wobbles and screeches.
Yikes, there's still a half-hour to go...
