Popular indie rock band The Shins are coming to The MACC at Kent State next Thursday promoting their first album in five years (fourth overall) "Port of Morrow."
The opening act will be Akron's own Relaxer, the group consisting of ex-Harriet The Spy/Party of Helicopters/Earthquaker Devices CEO guitarist Jamie Stillman, singer/guitarist Joe Scott (a.k.a White Pines), multi-instrumentalist Steve Clements (a bunch of bands) and drummer Brad Thorla (a bunch more bands).
That's a pretty darn good opening spot for a local band with only one album "Rainbow Generator" that hasn't done much dedicated touring.
Apparently, The Shins requested Relaxer, perhaps Shins mainman James Mercer was a big Harriet The Spy Fan...or Houseguest..
What: The Shins with special guest Relaxer
When: 8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 25
Where: Memorial Athletic Convocation Center, 1025 Risman Drive, Kent
Tickets: Students: $20-$30, Gen Adm., $35-$40
Check out the band from an April gig at The Beachland (with former drummer Cory Race)
Oh, and here is the lead single and humorous video from The Shins "Port of Morrow"
