Devo's Gerald Casale starting new wine company, The 50 by spuds involved

By Malcolm Abram Published: April 18, 2014

Yeah, so Devo's Gerald Casale has other interests outside of watching the human race devolve and writing songs about said the process.

On April 30 Casale will host a launch party for the first two wines from his 23 acre estate "The 50 by 50," located in Wooden Valley of Napa, California.

The new ventures first two offerings will be a Sonoma Pinot Noir (2012) and a Rose of Pinot Noir (2013).

Here's what Casale (via the 50 by 50 Web site) has to say about the Sonoma

"The 2012 vintage captures the tremendous depth and character of Sonoma Coast’s stellar growing season. Cherry and Blackberry flavors with a hint of Cinnamon yield to deeply satisfying earth and spice finish."

Here's Casale's description of the Rose

"The 2013, 50 by 50 Rose of Pinot Noir is superbly crisp and dry delivering the expected full, lush finish of Pinot Noir fruit that guarantees satisfaction."

No word yet on when or if the wines will be available in Casale's home state any time soon....
