Doobie Brothers Coing to The Akron Civic Theatre in May

By Malcolm Abram Published: February 11, 2014

This should be a pretty good show, although it's hard to imagine the Doobies singing Michael McDonald songs without Michael McDonald, but I'll give it a shot.

Also the episode of "What's Happening" featuring the Doobies (Rerun is forced to bootleg the Doobies Concert) was on not to long ago, which must be a sign of...something.

As one of the most popular California pop/rock bands of the ’70s, The Doobie Brothers evolved from a mellow, post-hippie boogie band to a slick, soul-inflected pop outfit by the end of the decade.  Extolling smart pop hooks and warm, soulful vocals, along the way, the group racked up a string of gold and platinum albums, along with a number of radio hits like Listen to the Music, Black Water, Takin’ It To The Streets and China Grove, lacing their country-rock stylings with an enjoyable dash of funk.

With founding members Tom Johnston and Pat Simmons, and 30 year-plus veteran John McFee, the Doobies will be performing as an eight-piece band including (band members).

There’s no disputing the unparalleled legacy of The Doobie Brothers.  This show is not to be missed.
