Downtown live music venue Musica plays host to local band showcase, Friday and Saturday

By malcolm Published: January 27, 2012

This weekend downtown music venue Musica (51 E. Market) has two nights featuring some pretty darn good local bands.

First up is Friday night which will be headlined by the indie rock & folk flavored band Bethesda (Shanna Delaney, Eric Ling, Justin Rife, Jesse Sloan, Dan Corby, Christopher Black, and part-timer Estee Beasley) who released a well received EP last year called Dreamtiger & Other Tails that is apparently going to get the band some quality background music time on a variety of shows on the Discovery Network as well as Showtime, MTV, Oxygen, VH1, and E!.
That's not to bad for an unsigned and kinda quirky indie band.

Also on the bill are A Band Named Ashes, The Modern Electric, Alan Brooks

What: Bethesda, A Band Named Ashes, The Modern Electric, Alan Brooks
When: 8 p.m., tonight
Where: Musica, 51 E. Market St.

Here's a few Bethesda songs you may soon be hearing in the background of VH1's Baseball Wives or a future episode of E!'s Kim and Kourtney Continue to Make Money Despite Having No Discernible Talent or Skills

On Saturday night Musica will host This Is Akron!, A six-band blowout showcase that begins at 6:30 with a couple of bands of teenagers Way Past Curfew who play mostly covers and The Big Sweet who already have two albums of melodic indie pop/rock under their belts.

The music continues at 8 p.m. with Akron to L.A. transplant pop/rockers The Strange Familiar, singer/songwriter Ryan Humbert, R&B band (yeah, an R&B band!) Winslow and post-grunge rockers Red Sun Rising.
