Another American Idol winner, Lee DeWyze to perform at Musica

By malcolm Published: April 27, 2011

Fresh off the announcement that A.I. season 5 winner Taylor Hicks will bring his silver-haired soulman shtick to downtown Akron's cozy concert club, Musica has announced that season 9 winner Lee DeWyze will be bringing his headlining tour to the club on June 27.

DeWyze's appearance will bring the club's former American Idol winner tally to three as David Cook played an emotional show at the club a few days after his brother lost his decade long battle with brain cancer.

Bell Biv Devoe wants to "Poison" you Saturday night at the State Theatre

By malcolm Published: April 20, 2011

Yeah, that was a corny headline, but since absolutely no one reads this thing, I figure why not enjoy myself.

Soooooo, on Saturday night at The State Theatre will be another opportunity to step through a rip in the time-space continuum and allow concert-goers to get a taste of what would have been a pretty sexy lineup back in the 90s with the "LADIES NIGHT OUT TOUR"

Rush returns to Ohio Friday night to play landmark "Moving Pictures" album and other hits

By malcolm Published: April 14, 2011

A reader wrote in and took me to task for not mentioning Rush's show Friday night at the Q in my column this week.
And, as a longtime Rush fan (and journalist-type due) I do feel bad that I ignored a band that holds a warm (heavily syncopated, helium high voiced, arpeggio-tastic) place in my heart.

The Canuck trio band has been playing their classic 1981 album Moving Pictures (say it with me) "in it's entirety" on the

Doin' The ShiSho Hustle and Kent goes Americana

By malcolm Published: April 6, 2011

Anyone who tells you young folks today are aimless, shiftless, ADD infected, cell phone and Facebook addicted lay-a-bouts should have a talk with the ladies of Kent's sister duo act Shi-Sho.

Vivian and Midge Ramone have been gigging and hustling for six years (they're 10 and 14 now) putting out records on their Magnetic Bunny Records, being rendered artistically in comic books and getting praise from famous folk such as Kimya Dawson and Jackyl (you remember them, the hard rock band with chainsaw solos). Well, now the duo is trying to spread their hustle to other "youngwave" bands (they even make up their own marketing lingo!) in the area with the launch of their "Rock The Tradition" music competition and All American Soap Box Derby music compilation fundraiser in conjunction with the locally shot, Corbin Bernsen produced Soap Box Derby film 25 Hill

Kid Rock & Sheryl Crow coming to Blossom in August

By malcolm Published: April 4, 2011

Alright all you Kid Rock fans, now that he is in full contemporary classic rock mode he's teamed up with AAA star Sheryl Crow for an evening of power chords, giant confederate flags (actually, I don't know that he still flyies the "stars and bars" at his shows, but it would fit in with the musical direction he's taken in the past few years) a likely duet or two (Crow and Rock have a new single "Collide") and cheap beer (quality not pricewise, this is Blossom after all).

Here's the info and tickets go onsale at 10 a.m. on Saturda, April 9
