From the desks of the Rock Hall...
I've been to the simulcast a few times, it can be pretty fun, especially if you're a fan of a particular inductee. It is a loooong evening, though...

Peter Frampton comes alive at the Civic Theatre

By malcolm Published: February 23, 2012

It's been three and a half decades years since Frampton Comes Alive ruled the rock and pop charts for 97 weeks, and since that time the charismatic, golden-maned rock star has lost most of his hair and half of the band members that recorded the album.

But Wednesday night at The Civic the 61 year old Frampton showed a sold out audience that he's still got a sense of humor, his singing voice and a lot of life in his guitar picking fingers with a near three-hour set that began with the classic rock radio staple Frampton Comes Alive and ended with a mix of covers Frampton's music from this century and some classic Humble Pie.

Grammy home stretch, who will win the biggies?

By malcolm Published: February 12, 2012

Tell the truth if you were out somewhere and a car full of actual man-sized hip hop hamsters jumped out and started breaking it down, like in the Kia commercial you'd be more than a bit freaked out wouldn't ya?

Here comes Nicki and her "production number we'll be talking about tomorrow" for the premiere of the song Roman Holiday.

Adele returns to the live stage at The Grammys....and Tony Bennett never goes away

By malcolm Published: February 12, 2012

It's Adele!

Is it just me or is there a slightly disorienting delay between sight and sound that is making everyone seem like underskilled lip-syncers? (sorry Taylor)
The periodic audio farts and glitches aren't very sexy either.

Still More Grammys (it's a looong show)...

By malcolm Published: February 12, 2012

It takes a brave dude to date Taylor Swift?
If it ends, whether good or bad, your relationship-from only her point of view (you know, where she calls you an immature, noncommittal a-hole or something like that)-will become several chart topping hit songs, that'll be hard to escape.
And then she might win a couple of Grammys for it as she did for Mean (best country song and best country solo performance)

Umm, is young miss Swift, lip-syncing?
I hope not.

More Grammys telecast....

By malcolm Published: February 12, 2012

It's Rhianna and Coldplay!
Well, more accurately it's Rhianna, then it's Rhianna and Chris Martin and then it's Coldplay.
More house/techno flavored grooves from one of today's biggest pop stars.

Anyone else think Rhianna's hair looks like the hair-do Sybil Danning use to rock back in the day?
Sybil Danning, anyone?
Chained Heat? (1983)
Reform School Girls? (1986)
Amazon Women on the Moon? (1987)

Grammys are GO!

By malcolm Published: February 12, 2012

There's a lot of people on stage but it's still missing something without the Big Man Clarence Clemons.

Nowadays, the Grammy telecast and most music related award shows are all about the highly touted one-of-a-kind performances so let's enjoy them and pick them apart, and count how many awards Adele wins tonight, shall we?

Madonna coming to Cleveland in November

By malcolm Published: February 7, 2012

Fresh of her "controversial" performance at the Super Bowl the Material Girl aka Madonna, will be touring the world with a stop at Quicken Loans Arena on November 10.

If you missed it (I was watching and I didn't see it), the world is all a-fuss about Madge's guest M.I.A. flipping the bird during the half-time performance, causing impressionable young children, all over America to immediately shout out curse words and viciously punch the nearest available grandparent in the face.
Tickets for the show go onsale at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 5. at all ticketmaster and livenation outlets

Rocker Sebastian Bach spending Super Bowl Sunday at Ripper's Owen's TapHouse in Akron

By malcolm Published: February 3, 2012

You gotta figure ex-Skid Row singer/Broadway star/actor/televison host Sebastian Bach has plenty of options when it comes to how to spend Super Bowl Sunday, but he will be here in Akron at his good buddy Tim "Ripper" Owens' Taphouse restaurant for a signing and meet and greet.

But before you throw on you neon pink halter-top and frosted lipstick, or dig that 1988 Skid Row t-shirt out of your closet, you should know the event is already sold out.

Soul Train creator and host, television pioneer Don Cornelius dead at 75

By malcolm Published: February 1, 2012

This is sad.
For anyone who spent their Saturday mornings watching Soul Train, as I did growing up, Don Cornelius was one of the coolest cats on television. His legacy as an African-American television pioneer cannot be overstated.
