The Black Keys nab three Billboard Award nods

By malcolm Published: April 14, 2011

Akron's own The Black Keys can add a few more accolades to their growing list.
The duo of Pat Carney and Dan Auerbach are finalists in three categories for the 2011 Billboard Music Awards.

Here they are for you perusing pleasure

Top Rock Album:
The Black Keys -- "Brothers"
Jack Johnson -- "To The Sea"
Kid Rock -- "Born Free"
Linkin Park -- "A Thousand Suns"
Mumford & Sons -- "Sigh No More"

editors note: Wait! Does that say Jack Johnson? Top Rock Album? Jack "Curious George" Johnson, the soft-singing King of the Polite Groove is in a category with the word ROCK?, Oh, Hell naw!....Actually one could easily make a similar argument about the English Folk-rockers Mumford & Sons but at least they have some really good harmony and are, you know....interesting....

Top Alternative Album:
The Black Keys -- "Brothers"
Jack Johnson -- "To The Sea"
Kings of Leon -- "Come Around Midnight"
Linkin Park -- "A Thousand Suns"
Mumford & Sons -- "Sigh No More"

editors note: See above J.J. micro-rant. Substitute "ALTERNATIVE" for "ROCK"

Top Alternative Artist:
The Black Keys
Kings of Leon
Linkin Park
Mumford & Sons
Muse

Since these are the Billboard Awards which are mostly about units shifted (as opposed to the Grammys which purports to award artistic endeavor), chances are you can just pick the finalist who sold the most records and call them the winner.

But, while you contemplate the Keys chances, check out this behind the scenes look at the making of the band's newest and quite funny video/fake trailer for Howlin' For you
