Only a handful of bands get into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame the first year they're eligible these days. When Billie Joe Armstrong learned that Green Day were one of them, he could barely process the news. "I had to go for a walk," he says.

"I wound up at this cafe and I sat down and my son met up with me. I told him and he was like, 'Oh my God. No way.' It just took some time to sink in. We're in incredible company and I'm still trying to make sense of this. It's just incredible."

Soul Jazz Records compilation of 1970s & 80s Akron/Kent bands

By Malcolm Abram Published: February 18, 2015

So wondering what all the graying geezer hipster musicians in Akron & Kent are always yammering about when the "good ol' days" of the 1970s and early 80s come up?
Well, besides the ability for a band to work 3-five nights a week in different venues, there was plenty of good, innovative rock music happening in the basements and on the stages of the Akron/Kent/Cleveland scene.
Well, England's Soul Jazz Records has just released a new compilation called

PUNK 45: Burn Rubber City Burn!

Akron, Ohio : Punk And The Decline Of The Mid West 1975 - 80

that features early singles from Akron/Kent stalwars including Devo, The Waitresses, Tin Huey, Rubber City Rebels, Hammer Dammage, Chi Pig and more!
Yeah, decline!
Check it out at SOUL JAZZ RECORDS!
