Ohio State was made the No. 2 seed in the West Region and will play Friday in Dayton against Iona. The game is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. and CBS (WOIO, Channel 19).

Gonzaga is the No. 1 seed in that region.

Time and TV for Akron on Thursday in NCAA

Akron was made the No. 12 seed in the South Region and will play Thursday in Auburn Hills, Mich., against Virginia Commonwealth. The game is scheduled for 9:45 p.m. on CBS (WOIO, Channel 19).

VCU is coached by former Zips assistant Shaka Smart.

ESPN suspends writer/commentator Bill Simmons

ESPN suspended Bill Simmons from Twitter for a few days after he called the Skip Bayless-Richard Sherman First Take meltdown last week awful and embarrassing.

An ESPN sources told Deadspin.com that the tweets violated ESPN's guidelines for social media. Indications are that it will be a three-day suspension.

UPDATE: Beanie Wells making another trip to Steelers

Beanie Wells of Garfield High and Ohio State took a physical this week in a visit with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported today.

The Steelers lost running back Rashard Mendenhall to the Arizona Cardinals, Wells' former team.

Report: LeBron James, longtime girlfriend set date for wedding

People Magazine is reporting that LeBron James and Savannah Brinson have set a wedding date for the middle of September.

James and Brinson have two sons -- LeBron Jr.,8, and Bryce 5. The two have reportedly asked friends to set aside Sept. 13-15 for a wedding in San Diego. Both are from Akron and have a residence in Bath Township.

It lists the salaries for University of Akron AD Tom Wistrcill at $234,000, Kent State AD Joel Nielsen at $245,000 and Ohio State AD Gene Smith at $1,099,030.

Report: McKinley's Se'von Pittman leaves Buckeyes program

The Columbus Dispatch reported Tuesday that defensive end Se’von Pittman, a Canton McKinley graduate, is no longer with the Ohio State football program after asking for his release.

Pittman redshirted as a freshman last season, asked for his release and it was granted, the spokesman told the Dispatch. The OSU spokesman did not give a reason for the move. Sources told the Dispatch that it had to do with an off-the-field issue and that Pittman was looking for a fresh start. Sources said Pittman was considering a transfer to Louisville.
