Weekend watch

By Ron Published: February 18, 2011

My TV clicker will be all about NASCAR this weekend. The truck race is tonight at 7 p.m. on SPEED and a good documentary on the day that Dale Earnhardt died 10 years ago is on at 10 p.m. tonight on SPEED. The Nationwide race is on ESPN2 at 1 p.m. Saturday. The big race is Sunday at Noon on WJW, but there is a prerace show on SPEED that starts at 9 a.m. Definitely the Super Bowl of NASCAR, and its TV partners do a good job presenting it that way.
But here are other TV highlights.

  • No. 4 Pitt is at MSG against St. John's at noon Saturday on ESPN. The Red Storm are much improved under Steve Lavin but Pitt considers New York its second home.
  • Michigan State is on at 9 pm against Illinois on ESPN on Saturday. Both have had their ups and downs. This will play into tournament seedings come March.
  • NBA Saturday is on TNT at 8 pm with the dunk contest and 3- point contest. I really have lost interest in this but it still is worth checking out.
  • Ohio State plays at Purdue at 1 pm Sunday on WOIO. The Buckeyes are playing for a top seed.
  • The NBA All-Star Game is at 8:30 on TNT on Sunday. Are you still watching with LeBron in a Miami jersey? My guess is Northeast Ohio ratings will be much lower for this.
