The 19th annual Barley’s Brewing Co. Homebrew Competition is fast approaching. As always, the winner gets to brew his or her beer at Barley's in Columbus for commercial release at the brewpub.
The brewery will start accepting beers June 5.
For full details, check out the news release below:
Many years before craft beers were synonymous with skinny jeans and facial hair, Barley’s was serving the Columbus area with a vast array of awesome craft beers. Once a year we hold a homebrew competition to pick a winner from the best of the best home brewers in the city and surrounding areas. The contestants enter their beers in late May for judging. We pick our judges from a select group composed of brewers, beer connoisseurs, and media personalities. There are three rounds of judging before the true champion can be crowned. The winner along with bragging rights will be able brew their winning recipe at Barley’s the following year.
The final judging and announcements will be on June 22nd. This will coincide with the Afternoon with the Brewers event and the tapping of last year’s winner-“Two Tones American IPA”. Anthony McKeivier and Tony Hill won last year’s Homebrew Competition. Contestants will submit their entries at Barley’s Brewing Company. Each style entered will require three unlabeled twelve ounce bottles. The drops off dates are June 5th, 11:00 AM-8:00 PM, June 6th, 11:00 AM-5:00 PM, June 7th, 11:00 AM-5:00 PM. A member of the brewing team will check in your entries. Details will be posted on Facebook and the Barley’s website. At the Afternoon with the Brewer’s in June, the finalists will gather for the final announcement.
Brewmaster Angelo Signorino will gather many of the local brewmasters for the judging process. At the Afternoon with the Brewers, guests will be able to hang out with the colorful cast of local brewmasters and compare brewing notes and, of course, drink lots of great local beer. Barley’s will have a variety of local craft beers on tap for your consumption.
Barley’s has and always will be an independent brewery and brewpub. We salute the American dream and independent mindset that it takes to brew beer. We want to celebrate creative nature of the brewing process to be enjoyed by all. Each year one lucky winner gets to take their creation and brewing skills to the next level. Most professional craft brewers have their roots in homebrewing and for that; we salute the homebrewing community with this competition and opportunity. Cheers to all homebrewers!
