The Mini Real Ale Fest returns to Barley's Smokehouse & Brewpub in Columbus from noon to 3 p.m. May 4. The annual event, now in its 10th year, attracts about 500 people and costs $35. It's expected to feature 20 firkins this year from breweries such as Epic, Stoudts, Oskar Blues, Rivertown, Thirsty Dog, Columbus, Four String, Buckeye Lake and Weasel Boy.
"We're excited about this year's lineup, including our new Cherry Zoltar, which is an East India imperial porter that's been barrel-conditioned (technically it's barrel conditioning as we speak) in a Woodford Reserve bourbon barrel with Michigan cherries," co-owner Lenny Kolada said in an email.
He has written a new blog entry detailing the event. You can read that by clicking here. He notes that Barley's doesn't tell brewers what to make for festival. "Case in point is Founders Brewing Co. sending us their Founders Porter this year, but with chocolate and Thai chili peppers added for that extra dimension you won’t get every day," Kolada writes. "We never dictate what beer gets shipped to us. We allow the creativity of the participants to take center stage. For that, we’re thankful that they take the extra effort for our festival."
