Beer prices to rise?
The Utica Observer-Dispatch in Utica, N.Y., is reporting that beer prices may rise because of an increase in hop and barley costs. Utica is home to F.X. Matt Brewing, one of the last family-owned regional breweries in the country. “Cost of production is up, and the cost of raw materials is up,” Fred Matt, president and chief operating officer for F.X. Matt Brewing Co., told the newspaper. He predicts a 25 to 30 percent increase in barley prices, and 10 to 25 percent increase in hop prices that may hit in October.
