Blank Slate The Lesser Path was crowned the "King of the Cincinnati IPA" following a blind tasting Saturday (Aug. 10) that featured Cincinnati-area beer bloggers sampling local India pale ales.
Apparently it wasn't an easy decision. "After nearly 45 minutes of deliberation and discussion, a two-way tie, and a head-to-head sudden death round, a winner was chosen," Josh Osborne, owner/author of Queen City Drinks, said in a news release.
Rhinegeist Brewing’s Truth West Coast-style IPA the runner-up. The Lesser Path is a white IPA.
In addition to Blank Slate and Rhinegeist, the competition featured Cellar Dweller, Christian Moerlein, Double Barrel, Fifty West, Listermann, MadTree, Mt. Carmel and Rivertown.
The expert tasters were Beer Mumbo’s Danny Spears, BeerQuest ABV’s Ian Hoopes, Brew Professor’s Mike Stuart, Queen City Drinks’ Tom Aguero and Queen City Fresh’s Chris Stevens. The blind tasting was proctored by Suds Anonymous’s Jack Behrendt and Loose Screw Beers’ Matt Rowe.
