Boston Beer Co., which has a Samuel Adams brewery in Cincinnati, won four medals at the recent European Beer Star competition in Germany.
The brewery picked up a gold medal in the Bohemian-style pilsner category for its Boston Lager. It also won a silver for its Wee Heavy in the scotch ale/wee heavy category; a silver for Tetravis in the Belgian-style dubbel category; and a bronze for Cream Stout in the sweet stout category.
Other winners from the U.S. include Founders, Goose Island, Lakefront, Deschutes, Firestone Walker and Left Hand.
“We’re thrilled to see that the international community is simultaneously responding to the ingenuity of American craft brewers as they continue to produce innovative, flavorful, unique and high-quality beers," Bob Pease, chief operating officer for the Brewers Association in Boulder, Colo., said in a prepared statement.
The Brewers Association’s Export Development Program reported record exports of American craft beer last year, with American craft beer export volume increasing by 72 percent with an estimated value of $49.1 million. Total American craft beer exports have increased more than 500 percent since 2007.
