Ohio brewers are well-represented in the sixth annual Brewing News National IPA Championship and inaugural National Imperial IPA Championship, which begin this weekend.
The competitions are set up like the NCAA March Madness tournament with beers being judged head to head in different rounds until there is only one left standing.
The following Ohio beers are in the IPA event: Willoughby Cosmic IPA, Nano Brew Cleveland Citramax, Chardon BrewWorks Ironworker IPA, Fat Head’s Head Hunter IPA, The Brew Kettle White Rajah, Chardon BrewWorks Belgian Lace Belgian IPA, Great Lakes Commodore Perry IPA, Market Garden Trouble and Hoppin’ Frog Hoppin to Heaven.
The following Ohio beers are in the Imperial IPA competition: Market Garden Centennial Extra IPA, Hoppin’ Frog Hop Dam Triple IPA, Great Lakes Alchemy Hour Double IPA, The Brew Kettle Old 21 and Willoughby Super Nova Double IPA.
The first round is Sunday in Buffalo. The final round and winner will be declared March 16 in Buffalo. People also can log onto the Brewing News website to fill out their own brackets. Prizes will be given to readers with correct brackets. The top prize is a free case of the championship beers.
