Mobile Canning will launch its Ohio operation in August under the name Buckeye Canning. The business also has signed up its first client: Yellow Springs Brewery in Yellow Springs.
Business partners Dan Blatt and B.J. Solomon announced late last year that they would start a mobile canning operation this year as an off-shoot of MobileCanningSystems in Longmont, Colo.
They had hoped to have the business up and running by this month but were delayed as they secured financing. They also decided to change the name from Great Lakes Mobile Canning to Buckeye Canning.
Mobile canning works like this: The business hauls its canning line and pre-ordered aluminum cans to a brewery for the day — or longer — and cans any beer requested. It gives small breweries an opportunity to can their beer without investing in a costly canning line.
Blatt said they will travel to Colorado to pick up and start training on their new canning line Aug. 7. They then will travel to Yellow Springs Brewery, a new production brewery and tasting room.
"The response has been overwhelming," Blatt said. "Everybody has been positive about it. What’s been interesting is that I thought I would have to pitch the can and sell the can, but that hasn’t been an issue at all."
