Catawba Island Brewing Co. is turning 1 this month and is holding a party to celebrate. The production brewery and tasting room in Port Clinton along Lake Erie will host a "Flocking Good Time" from 4 to 10 p.m. Thursday. (July 3)
The event will include two special beer releases: Beer Graper, the brewery's Beer Draper Chocolate Mole Stout aged in a Firelands Winery cabernet sauvignon barrel; and Sun Glitter Saison, which was made with hibiscus.
The party also will feature hazelnut chocolate mini cupcakes made with Catawba Island brown ale and maple bacon shortbread cookies from Sweets by Sara: The Cupcake Lady. The Naked Bacon Band, featuring Lenny Kromer and Dave David Hermes, will perform from 7 to 10 p.m.
Asked to reflect on the first year, co-owner Cindy Gunderson said: "The first two months were rough. [It's] undeniable that we should have held off on opening. But regardless, we made it through. And after that, we've been running. We're looking to grow more and more. The beer sells faster than we can make it. I think it's gone very, very well and we've had nice growth. We can't wait for this next year."
