Cincinnati brewers plan StarkBier Fest
Cincinnati-area brewers had such a good time with the Cincinnati-brewers-only Oktoberfest that they are planning another bash -- this time focusing on high-alcohol beers. Listermann Brewing Co. will host the StarkBier Fest from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. March 23.
It will feature Blank Slate, Fifty West, Christian Moerlein, Rock Bottom, Rivertown, Mt.Carmel, Mad Tree, Cellar Dweller, Wiedemann, Quaff Bros., Triple Digit and Listermann. Some of the breweries are making special beers for the event.
"The idea for a StarkBier festival goes back to the 1700s when the German monks made strong beers for their nutritional values to help them get through fasting during Lent," Listermann's Jason Brewer posted on the promotional website. "All of the beers present were 7.5 percent or higher. Continuing with this tradition, most of the beers present at the Cincy StarkBier Fest will be 7.5 percent or higher and all will be made right here in Cincinnati."
